¿Para qué escribir?
¿Por qué escribimos? La escritura de no ficción y ficción ha sido una forma instrumental para que las personas se conecten entre sí en el mundo real. Ya sea que estemos o no escribiendo cuentos para una tarea para el colegio, terminando novelas que autopublicamos o escribiendo a tiempo completo con el éxito de autores notables, son muchas las razones por las cuales escribir.
Para sentirnos vivos
Las artes abordan especialmente la idea de la experiencia estética. Una experiencia estética es aquella en la que tus sentidos están funcionando al máximo. Ocurre cuando estás presente en el momento actual o cuando estás resonando con la emoción de eso que estás experimentando. En otras palabras: cuando estás completamente vivo.
El acto de escribir nos lleva al momento. Vemos las hierbas en el viento, escuchamos el canto agudo del grillo de la mañana, vemos la sombra viajar de un borde del patio al otro, aparentemente por primera vez. Escribir nos ayuda a hacer arte de los momentos cotidianos y ordinarios. Con cada pieza de escritura, estamos invitados a ver el mundo desde una nueva perspectiva.
Aprovechamos la oportunidad de fundamentarnos en un punto de vista que puede ser el nuestro o el de un nuevo personaje. Uno que espera ansiosamente para enseñarnos algo especial sobre nosotros mismos y nuestro potencial.
Escribir nos brinda cantidades de momentos para simpatizar de veras con una persona, explorar un mundo y aprender una historia de una manera que nos recuerda lo que realmente importa en la vida. Desarrollamos una mentalidad de crecimiento a través de la escritura profunda.
Para dar a conocer nuestro nombre
Según George Orwell, una de las motivaciones para escribir es el puro egoísmo. Para este autor, muchos escriben por el “deseo de parecer inteligentes, de que se hable de ellos, de ser recordados después de la muerte, de vengarse de los adultos que los menospreciaron en la infancia, etcétera”.
Esto hace parte, pero la motivación puede ir mucho más allá de ser querido en el momento presente. Siendo honestos, sería genial vivir para siempre. Pero si no puedes vivir para siempre físicamente, ¿por qué tu memoria no puede hacerlo?
Todavía estamos hablando de Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luis Borges, Virginia Woolf, Julio Cortázar, Mark Twain y Edgar Allan Poe, mucho después de su muerte. Si bien esta podría no ser la más desinteresada de las motivaciones, es natural. Los escritores que comparten sus historias construyen un legado que también va más allá de sus vidas.
Escribir nos permite dejar una huella en el mundo actual y en las generaciones futuras, si tenemos el coraje de publicar nuestras historias y luego pasarlas a un lector. Con un poco de suerte, esos lectores pasarán esa historia a otro lector, que la pasará a otro una vez más.
Para cambiar el planeta
La gente consume ahora más que nunca en la historia. Comemos más, escuchamos más música y consumimos más información. Sin embargo, también hemos aprendido lo suficiente sobre el consumismo como para saber que no nos hará felices.
Escribir nos da la oportunidad de cambiar el rumbo del consumismo. En lugar de consumir más, podemos hacer algo. En lugar de alimentar la destrucción, potenciamos la creación. ¿No es emocionante? Todos los días, cuando pones los dedos en las teclas, estás creando algo. Y luego, con el clic de un botón, puedes compartirlo con el mundo.
Los seres humanos tenemos una necesidad incorporada de dejar nuestra huella en el mundo. Queremos traer cosas nuevas a la vida, moldear las cosas a la imagen que tenemos en nuestra imaginación, someter la tierra. Escribimos no solo para cambiar el mundo, sino para crear un mundo nuevo. Y con cada nuevo mundo, hay nuevas posibilidades. Las nuevas historias no solo completan el círculo de la vida sino que la enriquecen.
Para descubrir significado
El psiquiatra Victor Frankl planteó que la principal búsqueda de la humanidad no es la felicidad o el placer sino el sentido. “La vida nunca se vuelve insoportable por las circunstancias, sino solo por la falta de sentido y propósito”, escribió en El hombre en busca de sentido.
Los escritores tienen un don único para encontrar significado para sí mismos y para ayudar a otros a encontrar significado. De hecho, esta ha sido siempre la tarea principal de los narradores. Cada historia es importante para la persona que la vive, y nuestro trabajo es contar las historias universales, las historias que revelan la historia de cada persona en la tierra. Escribimos para darle sentido al mundo.
Nunca sabes la vida de quién podría cambiar tu historia. Por eso, en el fondo, nosotros, como escritores, entendemos que es importante no solo comenzar sino terminar lo que escribimos.
Todos tenemos historias que contar
Independientemente de cuántas copias de un libro vendas, las historias comparten significado y mensajes con patrones, y esos patrones son absorbidos y retenidos por personas que se acercan al mundo en busca de respuestas.
Cada una de nuestras vidas es una historia preciosa en sí misma. Y cada uno de nosotros tiene una cantidad ilimitada de historias que contar. Así que esperamos que comiences a contar tu historia y por qué no aquí mismo en Cuento Colectivo.
