Y hubo un día que, definitivamente, mudó su vida entera a Facebook. De nada valía la vida tranquila y cómoda que tenía con Tatiana, una joven provinciana con la que llevaba varios años de casado. Desde que un amigo de la infancia lo había obligado a abrir una cuenta de Facebook con la idea de ubicar a los amigos del colegio y organizar una integración, el sitio se había convertido en una obsesión y un perfecto cómplice para revivir amores pasados, conocer mujeres de otras ciudades y hasta para concretar citas con compañeras del trabajo y amigas de su esposa.
Todo comenzó como un juego. Frases, palabras y personas que volvían a golpear en su vida, su nueva vida. La otra, la aburrida y cotidiana, había quedado atrás, mientras todos dormían en sus camas. Sin embargo, hubo un hecho, un evento que lo descolocó… una ausencia. No poder encontrar a su primer amor. “Si todos están en Facebook y ella no, algo malo debe haber ocurrido”, pensó una noche de calor.
Buscó y preguntó a los demás si sabían algo de ella, pero nadie sabía nada. Todos le habían perdido la pista desde el colegio. Enseguida pensó que algo terrible le tenía que haber pasado para no estar en la red social donde estaban todos. Buscó noticias en los periódicos, en las hemerotecas virtuales, puso su nombre en Google y en Twitter a ver si aparecía algo, no obstante, la búsqueda fue en vano. No estaba en ningún sitio.
Pensó en buscarla en las páginas amarillas, tal vez algún teléfono estuviera a su nombre. Eso también fue inútil. Entonces se le ocurrió. Insertó en el buscador de la red social el nombre de la hermana de su viejo amor. Su perfil apareció al instante. Entonces buscó en la lista de amigos de su hermana, foto por foto, hasta que encontró la suya. Sólo se podía ver su silueta y al parecer había cambiado su nombre, pero estaba seguro que era ella. ¡Por fin la había encontrado!
“¿Qué haces despierto a esta hora?” lo sorprendió su esposa. “Eh… terminando cosas de la oficina, ya casi voy”…

“Algo importante”. La frase retumbó en su cabeza varias horas luego de que logró que su mujer se fuera a dormir nuevamente.
Qué tan importante podría ser aquella mujer que se burló de sus ideas infantiles de estar juntos para toda la vida; y que al terminar el bachillerato le había terminado sin razón alguna.
Desistió de la idea de agregarla a sus amigos de Facebook.
Seguiría teniendo amigas ocasionales y evocando recuerdos con sus exnovias de la universidad a través del chat, pero a Ella; la única mujer capaz de desestabilizar su tranquilo matrimonio, la dejaría en el anonimato, tal y como ella parecía que quería estar.
Volvió al cuarto y despertó a su esposa. “Es cierto que he estado ausente. Creo que dejé que esa máquina jugara con mi imaginación más de lo debido. Pero algo he aprendido y es que nunca más dejaré que esa ilusión de cercanía a los que están lejos que otorga internet me vuelva a separar de lo que tengo a mi lado, lo que de verdad es importante”.
La subita aparición de su esposa le había hecho temblar como un pajarillo asustado. Apresuradamente, escribio una nota convencional y la envió con una solicitud de amistad. Luego se metio en la cama sin encender la luz y se acurruco de espaldas a Tatiana. Cerro los ojos pero era inutil dormir. Estaba inquieto. Podía aun oir el corazon retumbar en al mebrana de su oido como en un tambor. ¿Como estaría ella? ¿Que contestaría a su mensaje? Apenas podía esperar al día siguiente.Se sentía de nuevo como cuando tenía 16 años y era un chiquillo enamorado que perseguía la vida con voracidad. Pero la vida era más voraz aun que él. ¿Que había pasado? ¿Cuando había perdido la chispa? Si tan solo pudiera recuperar aquellos años.
Una semana sin contestación despues estaba perdiendo la esperanza cuando en su móvil vio un mensaje personal en Facebook. Era de ella. Solo que ella, no era ella. En realidad no era su primera novia si no solo una prima que se le parecia un poco en la foto.
No se dio por vencido. Sabía estaba en alguna parte de la red social y continuo buscando a su viejo amor en Facebook, preguntando a sus amigos, y conociendo a gente nueva a traves de pistas y corazonadas. Poco a poco, inmerso en su obsesiva busqueda, fue cortando cabos con su aburrida vida convencional, su mujer, sus hijos, la oficina, los amigos del futbol. Cada vez pasaba más horas en el cuartucho que utilizaban de estudio en casa y cuando salia era para quedar con amigos o mujeres que conocia de la red social. Algunos días incluso faltaba al trabajo y luego tapaba su ausencia con mentiras. Pero las horas en Facebook nunca eran bastantes. Nunca encontraba lo que buscaba.
Tatiana decidio dejarle y se llevo a los niños. Fue ese día, al volver hacia el estudio perplejo por el pasillo escasamente iluminado por la luz de la pantalla del ordenador tras haber despedido a su familia con indiferencia en la puerta, cuando decidio que la mayoria de la gente que le rodeaba, no le entendía. Definitivamente quería que su vida entera estuviese en Facebook
