Una vez superado el síndrome de la página en blanco, hay otra etapa del proceso de escritura que también puede ser traumática. Se trata de esos meses de incertidumbre por la que pasan los escritores cuando creemos o estamos completamente seguros de que ya tenemos la clave de nuestra novela en la cabeza.
Si hay algo en que los escritores concuerdan, lo cual ya en sí es improbable, es en que nada puede perjudicar más a una novela en incubación que intentar describirla antes de que esté lista. Sin embargo, como escritores somos paradojas andantes y evitar la tentación de compartir muchas veces supera la necesidad de cerrar la boca.
¿Pero por qué pasa eso? Es porque somos inseguros, inseguros acerca de casi todo. Porque en nuestros corazones somos tan buenos como nuestro último párrafo y si nuestro nuevo libro no va para ninguna parte tal vez nosotros tampoco. En esas etapas incipientes, antes de ese momento mágico en el que la voz de la historia empieza a hablar, necesitamos validación. Alguien de afuera que nos diga, preferible con una autoridad y timbre celestial: “Es brillante. Estás en el camino correcto. Solo sigue adelante”.
El problema es, por supuesto, que nuestro crítico interno nos está susurrando en el oído que no estamos ni cerca del camino correcto y que en realidad estamos divagando en medio de la selva. No obstante, tratamos de someter al crítico interno, reclutando aliados entre nuestros amigos. Si nos confirman que sí, en efecto esa primera página de “Esto o lo otro” es inmortal y que preferirían colgarse que ser negados del conocimiento de lo que viene después, tal vez el crítico interno logre callarse. Esto rara vez funciona.
Lo más probable es que tengamos que divagar un poco más por la selva. Tal vez en la selva nos encontremos uno que otro tesoro que valga la pena guardar y si logramos sobrevivir a esta vorágine, tendremos los pies mucho mejor plantados sobre la tierra, para poder dar inicio al texto. En todo caso, sobre la pregunta de si un escritor debe o no pedir opiniones acerca de lo que está escribiendo, la respuesta depende mucho del escritor al que se lo preguntes.
Para muchos la escritura es un acto que se hace en soledad y los que van por esa línea no entienden a los escritores que les preguntan a sus 30 mejores amigos sobre su obra y luego re escriben teniendo en cuenta sus sugerencias. Si se piensa bien, tiene sentido porque con ese método la obra nunca estaría terminada.
Otros escritores dirán que la retroalimentación de otros es esencial para nutrir su trabajo. Lo que está claro es que si el escritor está abierto a sugerencias, debe establecer un límite que le permita culminar su trabajo. Por otra parte, debe tener muy claro que las sugerencias son solo eso y es él o ella quien decide cuáles permanecen y cuáles no.
En todo caso, en Cuento Colectivo sugerimos confiar en unas cuantas voces necesarias, tratar de evitar de torturar a estas almas con nuestras inseguridades lo máximo posible, y ante todo: ¡cerrar la boca y empezar a escribir! ¿Qué opinas al respecto? ¿Eres de los que busca opiniones o mantiene el secreto?
